CCPT 102: Child-Centered Play Therapy Practice & Application

Meet the speaker

Dr. Regine Chung is an Assistant Professor of Professional Counseling at Texas State University, a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Autism Specialist, and Registered Play Therapist. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of North Texas (UNT), specializing in play therapy and multicultural counseling. Dr. Chung presented at international, regional, and local play therapy conferences and is an approved trainer and supervisor by the Center for Play Therapy at UNT.

Dr. Chung has extensive clinical and supervisory experience working with clients across the lifespan and with a range of neurodevelopmental needs. As the former Assistant Director of the Center for Play Therapy, she provided play therapy services in various settings, including university community clinics, a domestic violence agency, and general and special education environments. She currently provides play therapy, parent consultation, and clinical supervision in private practice.

Dr. Chung is the author of several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on multicultural issues and play therapy. Her play therapy research has received multiple accolades, including the Association of Child and Adolescent Counseling Research Grant, the Dan E. Homeyer Play Therapy Research Grant Award, and the Association for Play Therapy Student Research Award. Her current research focuses on multicultural issues in counseling, play therapy, neurodiversity, and immigrant populations, aiming to improve treatment effectiveness and accessibility.

This is a three-day, advanced training on the practice and application of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). This intensive training builds upon foundational CCPT skills by addressing advanced topics in CCPT. Participants must have completed CCPT 101 or an equivalent course to register.

Training Description

This training covers: understanding child development, the CCPT process (relational disruptions and enacting conditions), themes in CCPT, advanced limit-setting, specific presenting problems/populations, parent consultation, advocacy, general research findings, and opportunities to apply and practice CCPT skills. The workshop includes a micro-practicum session and requires each participant to conduct and record a CCPT session with a child aged 3–10 before the workshop.

Schedule

December 12–13, 2025 (In-person workshop)

  • Friday & Saturday, 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM (includes a one-hour lunch break and two 15-minute breaks)

December 14, 15 OR 16, 2025 (Micro-practicum via Zoom)

  • Sunday, Monday OR Tuesday 8-11 AM or 7-10 PM (includes one 15-minute break)

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how child development impacts play therapy.
  • Distinguish between play behaviors and play themes.
  • Demonstrate when and how to use limit-setting and choice-giving from a child-centered perspective.
  • Demonstrate CCPT skills and attitudes.
  • Cite and access research findings on the effectiveness of CCPT.
  • Articulate the change process for various presenting problems.
  • Integrate feedback into their CCPT practice.

Language

  • Day 1-2 training will be conducted in Cantonese, with teaching materials provided in English.
  • Day 3 micro-practicum supervision is available in Cantonese, Mandarin, or English.

Cost

HKD 6,400 per participant

(Early bird rate: HKD 6,080 if paid on or before October 10, 2025)

This fee includes three days of advanced CCPT training and a micro-practicum, 18 CE hours, and brings participants one step closer to CCPT certification through the University of North Texas Center for Play Therapy.

All participants must have completed CCPT 101 (or an equivalent course as determined by the Center for Play Therapy at the University of North Texas) to register. Continuing Education

You will receive 18 total contact CE hours*. For Registered Play Therapist (RPT) Credentialing, this training covers:

  • 10 hours of Seminal or Historically Significant Theories,
  • 7 hours of Skills & Methods,
  • 1 hour of Culture and Social Diversity.

Payment, cancellation, & Refund

  • Payment will be made directly to PlayFellow Counselling and Development Centre (“PlayFellow”).
  • Registration cancellation refund requests should be submitted to PlayFellow in writing within 15 days before a scheduled training. The registration fee, minus a HKD 500 administrative fee, will be refunded.
  • Cancellations received less than 15 days before scheduled training. No shows or missed trainings will receive no refund or credit.
  • You may request to send another attendee in your place at least 7 days before the scheduled training.
  • PlayFellow reserves the right to cancel this training in the event of unforeseen circumstances. If such occurs, PlayFellow will attempt to notify registrants before the event and refund all fees. In all instances, the liability of PlayFellow is limited to refunding such fees.
